Jonathan Day Collective Biography 2024
“Jonathan Day is a musician of movement and of place – an artist who, whether through the experience of travel or through deep contemplation of his surroundings, has come to terms with his place in the world – and it is utterly beautiful.” Thomas Blake, Folk Radio UK
Jonathan and the band play folk with a world jazz piquancy that has been called ‘contemporary rural music’ from the Welsh borders. They have released four albums – their latest Sakura, (February ’23), has been called “extraordinary” by the BBC and spawned ‘Windflower’ picked up widely by French radio. Its predecessor a Spirit Library was Folk Radio’s Album of the Year, described by them as “utterly beautiful”. In the last couple of years the band have played festivals in the Sahara, Jamaica, Hong Kong, Italy and Thailand as well as the UK, including mainstage gigs at Bestival, Landed, FatE and many others.
The band sing in in English, Welsh and Hindi.
The band’s performances are enhanced by original projections made by the band and animator, illustrator and filmmaker friends.
